Zensah Calf/Shin Splint Compression Sleeve

Cost:
pair $40, $20 for single

I didn't try recovery compression sleeves until after my first marathon. But when I did try them, I wondered how I could have waited so long! After a long training run or race, I find compression makes a huge difference in the speed of my recovery. Instead of hobbling around, I'm able to much quicker be back to my pre-run state. The sleeves helps increase blood circulation, getting oxygen to the muscles faster. The back of the sleeve provides support of the calf and Achilles tendon with pock and vertical line which mimic the calf muscles.

Foam Roller

Cost:
$15-$45

I've long been a believer in the foam roller for training. They are great to stretch out your muscles before or after a run. There are a variety of exercises you can do with the foam roller (see this link at bodybuilding.com). I find using the foam roller especially useful with the quads, hamstrings and low back. There are some fancy models available with trigger point grids are available, but I've never tried them.

It's a great addition to any home gym.

Cost:
$80

Wahoo Fitness makes two heart rate monitors (HRM). One based on the ANT+ protocol and another based on Bluetooth LE. This review is for the Bluetooth LE version, which I use. The Bluebooth LE protocol is only available on the IPhone 4S and some of the latest Android phones, but more and more devices will be coming out that support Bluetooth LE (low energy).
